The “5 second rule” is a deceptively simple yet surprisingly effective insight: your brain has a natural ability to “kill” ideas before you act on them. Whenever you think of something you want/need to do, you are in an arms race to act before your brain kills it.

The 5 second rule: If you think of a task, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it.

As soon as you think of a goal or a task you want to do, start counting backwards from 5: 5…..4…..3…..2…..1…..GO! If you haven’t physically moved within 5 seconds, your brain will kill the idea, you will come up with excuses or reasons not to do it, or you’ll simply get distracted and move on to something else.

If you want to start making changes rather than just having great ideas, there’s no better time than now. 5…4…3…2…1…Go.
