About Me
Thanks for visiting and taking the time to learn more about me (Ricky) and my services. I’ll try to give an honest snapshot of what to expect from me, both personally and professionally. I’m married with two children, from whom I’ve learned lessons about life that I couldn’t have learned from my stacks of books. We settled down in Simcoe County in 2015 after falling in love with the outdoor recreation and natural beauty of the area. Every day brings a new lesson, and I’m continually grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those I meet.
My Background
I began practising in 2013 and worked in various mental health settings before opening our practice. Early on, I worked mostly in marriage and family therapy, and through the years I’ve worked with non-profit agencies, community health centres, family health teams, mental health hospitals, and helped launch provincial therapy programs. I genuinely enjoy what I do. I look forward to meeting new people and having meaningful conversations. I feel honoured to have people trust me with their vulnerability, and seeing these relationships produce some kind of transformational change is deeply gratifying.
My Approach
I’m typically relaxed and conversational and try to help people get to the heart of the matter. I specialize in getting people “unstuck” from their current way of thinking about and dealing with issues. I love asking thoughtful questions and re-framing your situation so you can approach it in ways you haven’t considered before. I’ve learned that there is no “one-size-fits-all” therapy model but that the therapeutic process requires a unique and authentic understanding of each persons needs.
I’m not afraid to provide direction and honest thoughts when needed, but I strive to do it in a way that respects your values. I believe that being a good therapist means being a dedicated student of the craft. For me, this takes the form of being an avid reader and lifelong learner, always seeking to stay current and informed. It's a part of the job I find deeply rewarding, as it ensures my practice is always evolving for the better.
