Thanks for visiting and taking the time to learn more about me (Ricky) and my services. I’ll try to give an honest snapshot of what to expect from me, both personally and professionally. I began practising in 2013 and worked in various mental health settings before opening my practice. Early on, I worked mostly in marriage and family therapy, but through the years I’ve worked with non-profit agencies, community health centres, family health teams, mental health hospitals, and helped launch provincial therapy programs. I genuinely enjoy what I do. I look forward to meeting new people and having meaningful conversations. I feel honoured to have people trust me with their vulnerability, and seeing these relationships produce some kind of transformational change is deeply gratifying.
I’m typically relaxed and conversational and try to help people get to the heart of the matter. I specialize in getting people “unstuck” from their current way of thinking about and dealing with issues. I love asking thoughtful questions and re-framing your situation so you can approach it in ways you haven’t considered before.
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with a Masters Degree (MA) from Wilfrid Laurier University. I also completed a 6-month post-graduate internship in couples and family therapy, learning to identify and resolve underlying relationship issues. I’ve taken hundreds of hours of professional training over the years and am familiar with most scientific literature in the fields of psychotherapy, clinical psychology, and human nature. I’ve learned that there is no “one-size-fits-all” therapy model but that the therapeutic process requires a unique and authentic relationship with each client.
I’m not afraid to provide direction and honest thoughts when needed, but I strive to do it in a way that respects your values. I keep up to date on modern research trends and obsessively read many of the greatest scientific thinkers of our day. I try to take every opportunity to learn and improve myself as a practitioner.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out, I’m always happy to chat.
